Block Enters Consumer Bitcoin Advertising
Block launched 'Bitcoin Does,' its first-ever mass-consumer Bitcoin advertising campaign, aimed at the 60 million Americans who are curious about Bitcoin but haven't taken the first step.
The campaign avoids mining and blockchain explainers, instead showcasing Bitcoin working in everyday contexts. Maria Pesce, Head of Bitcoin Marketing at Block across Cash App, Square and Proto, discussed the strategy in a recent interview.
Customer Insights Drive Messaging
Pesce shared that a Square seller described Bitcoin as 'more honest money,' reflecting the customer insight behind the films. Inflation, bailouts and private equity experiences shaped the campaign narrative.
The ads connect Main Street frustration to Bitcoin's value proposition, emphasizing fixed supply and self-custody as key draws for younger users.
Lightning Integration at ComplexCon
Block demonstrated Bitcoin usability at ComplexCon through Lightning Lake, where attendees fished for Bitcoin and made payments over the Lightning Network.
The campaign also highlights Square's 0% Bitcoin processing fees as a retention tool for merchants and users.
