Block Doubles Down on Bitcoin Utility
Jack Dorsey’s Block, the NYSE-listed company, launched a major advertising campaign on Thursday aimed at driving Bitcoin adoption for everyday transactions. The initiative comes amid growing concerns about cost of living and economic pressures facing American voters.
Miles Suter, Bitcoin Lead at Block, stated the campaign is a “first major illustration of what a Bitcoin-centric financial system could look like,” and aims to demonstrate the cryptocurrency’s potential to improve financial lives. The core message of the campaign, encapsulated in the slogan “Some things don’t make sense. Bitcoin does,” directly addresses public frustration with traditional financial systems.
The advertisements will be distributed across a wide range of media, including YouTube, X (formerly Twitter), Meta platforms, Instagram, and Fox Sports television through December 31. Block also plans to show the ads in theaters during screenings of Avengers: Doomsday and Dune 3.
Dorsey, who stepped down from Twitter in 2021 to focus on payments and Bitcoin, has long advocated for Bitcoin as a global currency, even describing the original Bitcoin white paper as “poetry.” Block’s existing products, Cash App and Square, already facilitate Bitcoin transactions – including Lightning Network payments – and the company previously introduced a modular Bitcoin mining rig designed to lower maintenance costs.
