Cardano Launches Dijkstra Testnet Ahead of Conway Upgrade

Cardano developers have released the Dijkstra testnet, providing a public environment for preparation ahead of the upcoming Conway upgrade. The launch doesn’t signal immediate mainnet activation, but a crucial step in compatibility testing.

Cardano Launches Dijkstra Testnet Ahead of Conway Upgrade

Cardano’s Dijkstra Testnet Goes Live

Cardano developers now have a public test environment for the Dijkstra upgrade, though the transition to the new protocol rules remains a separate step. The refreshed Dijkstra testnet went live on October 21, running Conway protocol version 11 with node 11.1.3, according to Intersect’s October 24 update.

A subsequent node prerelease and testnet governance action are required for protocol version 12. This staged approach allows for a live rehearsal environment before the implementation of new rules. Pool operators can now access configuration files, connect to the test network, and utilize a faucet for test assets.

Staging for Compatibility

The planned Dijkstra transition will follow the availability of the 11.2 prerelease and a hard-fork initiation action. This staging is designed to give developers a baseline to verify their applications handle the current environment correctly before facing changes in transaction formats and protocol behavior. Distinguishing application bugs from network upgrade issues becomes easier with this approach.

The published node release serves as the definitive software reference. Intersect’s weekly report and the Cardano Operations Book detail the sequence of events. Beyond stake pools, exchanges, wallets, and applications all require testing to ensure deposits, withdrawals, balances, signatures, and transaction acceptance function as intended. The testnet provides a shared space to identify and resolve mismatches before real ADA is at risk.

This milestone doesn’t establish a mainnet activation date, guarantee feature completion, or predict ADA price movements. Its immediate value lies in facilitating compatibility work across the Cardano ecosystem. Successful synchronization, transaction submission, and identified/fixed problems are key indicators of progress, relevant to Cardano’s ongoing stablecoin activity and broader platform resilience.
